Former Mercedes-Benz of Hertford Valet; Now three-time Formula One World Champion.
At Mercedes-Benz Hertfordshire we’re hoping Lewis Hamilton’s stint as a valeter at our Hertford retailer has stood him in good stead when it comes to polishing precious metal. It’s been a few years since some of our customers were lucky enough to have their vehicles cared for by the now three time Formula One World champion. But, wouldn’t it be awesome to track down just a handful of these extraordinarily lucky Mercedes-Benz? Blessed by a now all-time great of Formula One.
Stevenage’s most famous sporting personality, who spent time at our Foxholes Business Park retailer whilst at college, collected his latest silverware when he landed the Formula One drivers’ world championship for the third time with victory in the US Grand Prix. He showed a prolific domination throughout this season and despite an initial fight with teammate Nico Rosberg it became obvious as the season progressed that Lewis had the edge and that Nico would continue to suffer from the hardest luck any sport could throw at him.
Nevertheless, Hamilton’s achievement came with three rounds still to go in the 2015 campaign and followed the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS complete dominance in winning the Formula One Constructor World Championship at the previous round in Russia. His win Stateside was his tenth in a season in which either he or team-mate Nico Rosberg have topped the podium in 13 of the 16 races held so far. Following Jackie Stewart, he is only the second British driver in history to achieve a hat-trick of world titles .
It’s no secret that to attain his last two world titles Lewis has been driving by far the best car in Formula One. With the odd spat of unreliability its only weakness, the car has shone at all but one grand prix in Singapore at out pacing the competition. As well as having a superior car to drive its been a commendable performance in qualifying throughout his campaign which has seen him overcome his foremost competitor Nico Rosberg. Life away from the track seems to have taken a turn too and despite initial speculation of a break-up with long time girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger effecting his driving performance, the opposite is true, popping up at fashion shows and events across the world and having the time of his life is reflected in his performance on the circuit.
It’s also the ascent to becoming a more complete driver that stands out the most though, frustrations a few years back completely outshone by focus, faultless drives and steely determination to overcome adversity in any race. Character traits we know and love from Lewis’ early days in karting, formula three, GP2 and of course those illustrious first two season in the top flight of the motor racing world.
With races to go in Mexico, Brazil and Abu Dhabi, Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS already have an incredible lead of 200 points in the constructors’ championship and could match their success of 2014, when they claimed 16 victories from the 19 races held. As members of staff from Mercedes-Benz Hertfordshire reminisce their encounters with Lewis on the back of the news of his now third world championship title, we can only wonder what the future might hold. For now the pride is still sinking in, that one of our own is again crowned champion of motor racing and driving no less than our beloved Mercedes-Benz.
