Leading into this year’s Mercedes-Benz Hertfordshire Golf Challenge it was hoped the clouds would break and bring out the sunshine on the tremendous Melbourne course at Brocket Hall, for another spectacular day of golf in the MercedesTrophy Final pre-qualifier. Mercedes-Benz customers from across Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas, came together to compete on a glorious day for golf in a Stableford competition to qualify for one of the finest prizes in amateur golf, and the start of a journey which saw three Hertfordshire golfers last year go all the way to St Andrews and compete in the UK final. An early start was met with a glorious and superbly prepared course, making for some equally impressive scoring and the group ending the day at the head of the field coming from across the handicap range.
After the golf the players had a chance to experience the UK’s best trick shot specialist, Kevin Carpenter, show off some of his finest golf skills, frankly defying what anyone would think possible with a golf club and a unicycle! The afternoon meal and prize presentation followed In the company of L&L Automotive (Mercedes-Benz Hertfordshire) Brand Director, David Presley, and three general managers from across the group; Andrew Gallagher (Hertford), Nick Spang (Stevenage) and Iain Phythian (Bishop’s Stortford), along with Ashley Chaplin (Group Customer Support Advisor) and the marketing team. A exquisitely prepared late lunch brought to a close a day of magnificent hospitality provided by Brocket Hall Golf Club.
Our winner Elliott Payne (Chigwell Golf Club)
Congratulations go to our winner Elliott Payne (Chigwell Golf Club), runner up Phil Embleton (Brookmans Park), and Les Dimmock (Mount Pleasant Golf Club) who came in third. Elliott, along with the two winners of the other handicap categories, will go through to the MercedesTrophy Regional Final at St. George’s Hill Golf Club in Weybridge at the end of July.
Nearest the pin was by Gareth Heald, with a number of golfers peppering the pin just outside his winning tee shot. Longest drive was won by Brian Worthington with a shot that was, by all accounts, a monster! A big well done to Brian for bringing the big guns and making them count.
